My birth name is Rebecca and my super hero name is Ruby Phoenix. When I practice yoga I breathe into my inner super hero and I breathe in the Courage it takes to Rise above the darkness with lightness.
Raised by a Superwoman strong Korean Umma, I yearn this journey to learn the balance between suppress, repress, depress and exhaling it all away to undress the artistic dance of self acceptance. After working with an artistic dance healer, I learned to use color and movement as medicine to embracing myself naturally now after removing saline breast implants that gave me symptoms of lymphatic breast cancer and a disconnect to who I am naturally. I chose not to take pain pills and deeply commit myself to my hot yoga practice studying with every studio in town, training with Kendra and Ben of Nirguna, Blissful and now Sweat where I celebrated Mother’s Day fulfilling a dream getting certified with Danielle Goldfarb in Sound Bath Healing.
Experiencing how these higher frequencies and vibrations connect to our energy centers to retune, rebalance and release negative and toxic energy, gets my soul stoked to share Sound Bath Healing in your Yoga Trapeze class experience.
Side note, I have a passion for creative dance expression and performed for a local Burque band video by, Chicharra titled “Are You?”
And won a local Pole championship in 2018 where I performed my yoga skills intertwined on a Pole. I’ve dabbled in hip hop, ballet, swing and modern dancing and love to combine it all with my yoga flow.
I began practicing as a teen, thankfully got hooked on hot yoga in my early 20s when I managed a Bikram turned 1st Modo hot yoga Studio in Toronto, Canada. I left a six figure television hosting and marketing career because I awoke from a dream one night where I had a clear vision that my life purpose was to teach and share my love for the healing effects of yoga. I studied with every teacher I could at every yoga show and even got on stage and did yoga demonstrations. Despite stage fright …As long as I didn’t have to sing.
After taking my first teacher training with Jess and Deena Robertson, and Ted Grand of Modo Yoga, I moved to Hong Kong to teach at Pure Yoga where I’m grateful to train with many committed and inspiring teachers from all over the world… Patrick Crealman, Anna Forrest, Clayton Horton, Tanu Singh, Claudia Whitney, Julia McCabe and Lucas Rockwood are just a few.
I reunited with the last 3 when I recently hired them 20 years later, to help deepen my practice in life coaching/ self-care skills to meditation to recently taking the Yoga Trapeze training. I was ready to raise my practice to another level and Yoga Trapeze is helping me breathe into scar tissue with more space, which is helping me breathe deeper and advance in my hot yoga practice.
A proud mom of 3 incredible kids, I believe daily practice is key to my center of calm amidst any storm. Before becoming a momma I spent 10 years traveling and sharing my love for yoga on the sandy beaches of Boracay and throughout Philippines where I taught kids in the villages to monks in the Catholic Monasteries. I taught yoga in Saigon, Vietnam and quit a fancy studio to volunteer in a Catholic Orphanage and share it with the kids and nuns there.
After giving natural home births to my 3 lovely kids, little did I realize a series of injuries and trauma would follow. Thank God I believe I wouldn’t go through anything that I couldn’t handle.
With injuries from neck, shoulder, wrist and a list of emotions that ripple as I navigated learning to heal it all, one breath, one dedicated practice, at a time. I send deep gratitude to my teachers and to an incredible support system of community I have met through SWEAT Hot Yoga Studio, David & Marisa, Ally, the teachers and students there that show up every day to practice. Our silent way of showing up strong.
And I wouldn’t have felt good enough to go there if it wasn’t for Bridget Hazen and Dathan Weems, nudging me to know I’m worth it and to do what’s good for me… now those are true friends and impeccable lawyers.
I’m grateful my practice has connected me now to Amanda Tay. I am excited to share the wonderful benefits of breathing and literally hanging out and flowing with the Yoga Trapeze together! Let’s feel our spines unwind, balance our chakras and our joints and breathe newness and lightness into the tightness inside and fill up with brightness.
I wanted to learn the Yoga Trapeze to help me relieve chronic pain from all my injuries and become playfully challenged again. It is completely opening up my spinal traction in my runners lunge and warriors and it’s evening out the balance of my hips unlocking old scar tissue and my backbends are reaching a whole next level with this trusted support to breathe safely and open up my heart more. It is from there, I wish to release, forgive all past and live present more fully.
I look forward to sharing this space with you.
